Q – I have 32 GB Sandisk USB drive. I save all my daily basis documents to it. Once, My laptop has some issues so it stopped working. I thought to move the pen drive files to my PC so that I can access them in my PC but when I attached pen drive to it. Its shows opacity and I was not able to access the files. I don’t know what’s going wrong with it. Is there anyone who can help me to restore my drive to its full capacity?

This is a normal issue which may be happened to the users several times. First of all, you need to check is there any hidden files in your pen drive. It is possible that these hidden files are holding extra spaces. You need to first do them unhide.

Don’t worry, you need to check for the viruses. It may happen that the entry of viruses to your pen drive has taken the space and that’s why you are getting the wrong capacity. Run an antivirus program and properly scan your USB drive. It will definitely get back to its full capacity if it has the virus issues.

You can restore USB disk back to full capacity with DiskPart. Below are the steps for this –

  • Run Command Prompt as Administrator
  • Type DiskPart and hit enter key
  • Type List disk and press enter key so that disk part lists all the disks connected to your computer
  • Select USB disk you want to restore
  • Type Clean and press enter
  • Once DiskPart cleans the disk, create a new partition on USB drive
  • You will get a message ‘DiskPart succeeded in creating the specified partition
  • DiskPart Exit and your USB drive is restored to its original state

Sorry but I am unable to understand the above-discussed method and still have not found the solution to restore my pen drive to its original state. Kindly suggest me any other solution.

You can simply use EaseUS Partition Master that allows you to format the USB flash drive by recovering the data contained in it. This will recover the unallocated space and shows you the correct capacity of the disk.
