Q – I recently installed the Adobe Pro DC updates. Now I am unable to view the highlighted feature. When I click the highlighting feature, the text area shows some border lines and when I try to put the cursor in front of text I want to highlight, it shows some errors. Can anyone resolve this issue?

I understood your problem and as per my experience, I would like to suggest you check the updates. Maybe some updates are still pending and after these updates, you will be able to see the highlight feature.

If you are still facing the same issue, you can reset the acrobat preference settings to default. This will probably resolve your issue.

The text highlight tool will work only when your PDF file has text information. It does not work with images. So, kindly assure your PDF file should contain text only.

Kindly check your PDF file. It should not contain any restrictions. To remove the restrictions, Go to File > Properties > Security. You can check the security here and remove it from there. After that, you will be able to highlight your text.

If your PDF document doesn’t have searchable text. It is an image or scan-based. You can check if the document has searchable text. Go to Comment > Text Viewer to see if there is any text here. In this case, you can use the OCR feature to make the text recognizable and highlightable. I am providing the steps for this –

  • Go to OCR feature
  • Use Area Highlight tool under comment menu

If all the above methods won’t work for you, you can go for third-party applications. Softaken PDF Watermark is one of the third-party applications you ay try. I have tried this application a week ago and added watermark to my text or images of PDF document. The tool works very seamlessly and fastly. It has multiple features to set the watermark to your texts and images. You can go for the tool and resolve your issue.
